Days after the Hathras gangrape and murder case, a 22-year-old Scheduled Caste woman died after she was raped, in Uttar Pradesh’s Balrampur.
Balrampur Superintendent of Police Dev Ranjan Verma said a written complaint was filed at the Gainsdi Police Station in which her family members said the woman had failed to return home on time from the firm on Tuesday. The family made several attempts to contact the victim, but to no avail. The victim later returned home in a rickshaw in a very bad condition, with a glucose drip injection attached to her hand, added Verma.
“The family members tried to take the woman to the hospital but she succumbed on the way. The family has named two boys in the written complaint and have alleged rape. The police acted immediately on the complaint and have arrested both culprits,” said Verma, adding a case will be registered and strict action taken against all those involved.
According to local reports, a 22-year-old Scheduled caste woman was gang-raped after being given an injection. After raping her, the unidentified accused broke her both legs before killing her.
Local media reports said the woman was a college student and was returning home after taking admission for the new session.
“My hands are shaking as I write this tweet. I am shocked, angry and pained. In Balrampur, an incident more horrific than Hathras has been committed. A woman belonging to Dalit community has been raped. Both legs were broken. Her waist was broken. An injection was given to silence her. She was then killed,” Editor of UP-based Bharat Samachar, Brajesh Misra, said in a tweet.
Balrampur Police said on Twitter that two accused have been arrested. It said the claim of both legs being broken is not true as it was not confirmed in the postmortem report.
Reacting to the incident, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav in a tweet in Hindi said, “After Hathras, a girl has been gang-raped in Balrampur and she has now succumbed. The BJP government should not indulge in a cover-up like in Hathras and must immediately take strict action against the culprits.”
SP spokesperson Juhie Singh in a tweet said: “After Hathras, now its Balrampur. The legs of the victim were broken, she finally lost her life also. Where is the government?”
“We have received a complaint at the Gaisri police station. The woman’s family members said she worked at a private firm. On Tuesday, she did not return till late night. When they tried to contact her on phone, they could not reach her. Later in the night, the girl came home on a rickshaw in a bad condition, with glucose drips attached to her arms. She was rushed to a hospital, but died on the way,” said Balrampur SP Dev Ranjan Verma.
This comes amid massive outrage over the gang-rape of a 19-year-old girl in Hathras. The Scheduled caste teen was allegedly sexually attacked by four men on September 14 and referred on Monday to the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi with spinal injuries, paralysis and cuts in her tongue. She died around 3 am on Tuesday.
The family of the victim of gang rape, brutal assault and murder in Boolagarhi village of Hathras has said that the authorities did not take their permission before cremating their daughter in the early hours of Wednesday. The victim’s father said the family members were not allowed to see the face of the girl one last time.
